Hainline Attends Governor's Summit on Career Connected Learning

The first annual Governor's Summit on Career Connected Learning was a huge success this past Wednesday, May 31st. Attended by Director of K-12 Construction Services, Yong Lee Dunbar and President, Jim Stoner, Hainline joined multitudes of other businesses, industry partners, educational game changers, and community leaders in discussions geared towards providing students the necessary education for high-demand careers in today's marketplace.

At the Summit, Governor Jay Inslee announced policy recommendations and revealed a Career Connect Washington Task Force, a partnership expected to accelerate career-connected learning in Washington State. Pictured above is Chris Sieg, Tacoma Public School's District Worksite Learning Coordinator, sharing Tacoma Public School's Career Connected Learning Programs with focus on their LapTops2Kids program. The Laptops2Kids program has provided more than 1,100 laptops to students who qualify for free and reduced lunch or meet federal poverty guidelines. The laptops provided to qualifying students promote 21st century learning and help the students gain the life skills required for high-demand careers.

Pictured below was another impressive presentation demonstrated by the Nespelem School students. The students shared their Career Connected Learning Experiences with the School's partnerships with Washington State University and Nespelem Valley Electric. 2017 marks the twelfth year of an innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) educational outreach program and retention initiative for the Nespelem School. One day each month, pipeline participants from USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS), WSU, and other partner organizations teach STEM related topics to students in the fifth through eighth grades at Nespelem School or Paschal Sherman Indian School on the Reservation of the Colville Confederated Tribes.
